Which languages and cultures are the questionnaires valid for?

Most of the adult, youth and child items have been translated into Spanish. Russian, Spanish & Korean translations are also available for some of the adult questionnaires.

Translations for other languages can be created as the demand arises. Clinicians and consumers are encouraged to contribute to this effort.

The Spanish versions of questionnaires are now in use at multiple sites. The sample sizes are as yet too small to permit the kind of in depth item analyses performed on the English version of the items. However, experience with other similar outcome questionnaires suggests that the measures have similar psychometric properties when translated to other languages or used with diverse cultural populations.

Some of the organizations using ACORN measures are collecting data on the race and/or ethnicity of clients completing the questionnaires. This is certainly a possible area for future investigation and collaboration among clinicians wishing to test the properties of the measures among different racial or ethnic groups.

As with all tests, the clinician must remain sensitive to the context in which the measures are used, the explanation given for their use, and perceptions and expectations of the clients.
