The ACORN outcome questionnaires are all designed to possess high face validity. They ask about many of the most commonly occurring symptoms and complaints among individuals seeking mental health services. The purpose of the items is self-explanatory to patients.

The questionnaires also demonstrate construct validity, in that they are composed of items known to load on the global distress factor found present in all patient self-report measures of psychiatric symptoms and complaints, including widely used measures of depression and/or anxiety.

For more on validity see CalculatingValidity.
