Value Based Care

Value based care focuses on the outcome of treatment, not simply the cost. By definition, value based care requires some degree of standardization in evaluating the outcome of care. Providers who aren't utilizing broadly accepted measures of outcome are increasingly at a disadvantage in a competitive market where employers, insurers, and government entities are asking for evidence of effectiveness and value of the services...i.e. outcomes.

The ACORN collaboration focuses on giving providers the tools necessary to demonstrate the value of their behavioral healthcare services. To support this effort, participants in the collaboration have generated a large number of articles in peer reviewed journals which have addressed a number of the challenges in the implementation of value based care, including the challenges of controlling for use of different outcome measures among widely differing populations of patients. Although this work continues, the existing peer reviewed literature provides a strong foundation for moving forward with value based care.
